High command is high command, Kumari Selja expressed her pain on not getting ticket; also spoke on factionalism in Congress

The party has declared candidates for a total of 89 seats in the 90-member Haryana Assembly elections and has given one seat to the Communist Party of India (Marxist) under the alliance. Although the Congress, following its earlier announcement, did not field any of its MPs in the Haryana Assembly elections, it has shown generosity towards many leaders’ sons and given them tickets. During the process of selection of candidates, Congress’s state in-charge Deepak Babaria had made it clear that no MP would be allowed to contest the assembly elections. Kumari Selja’s name was at the forefront among the Congress MPs who wanted to contest the assembly elections. Selja herself has also expressed her wish that she wanted to contest the elections but she was not given a ticket.

Congress General Secretary and Lok Sabha member from Sirsa seat Kumari Selja, while talking to the media, said that she had a desire to contest the assembly elections and she had started saying this even before the Lok Sabha elections. She said that there is nothing wrong in expressing the desire, the decision has to be taken by the high command. On the question of factionalism in ticket distribution, she said that everyone advocates for their workers and there are many claimants, but the high command selects only one name. She said that but the one whom the high command selects is the party’s candidate, for whose victory every worker works. On being asked what is the high command, she said, “The high command is the high command, like Sonia Gandhi, Rahul Gandhi, President Mallikarjun Kharge.”

Regarding the news of her resignation that ran a few days ago, she said that whatever has been shown is from three years ago, when she resigned from the post of state president. When asked how the Chief Minister will be chosen when former Chief Minister Bhupendra Singh Hooda’s faction gets more tickets, she said that she has said many times before that the decision on the Chief Minister is taken by the high command. Look at the history of Haryana and see how the leader is chosen. She claimed that in Congress, everyone works together for the party.
