Himachal Pradesh High Court has given an important decision on Thursday in the PIL filed regarding admission in the first class. With this decision, the way has been cleared for about 50 thousand children in the state to get admission in the first class.

Himachal Pradesh High Court, while giving its verdict on the PIL filed regarding admission in the first class, said that children below the age of six years should be admitted in the first class in the current academic session. A division bench of Chief Justice Rajiv Shakdhar and Justice Satyen Vaidya issued orders to the government and schools to enroll children below six years of age in class 1 in the current academic session.

The parents have heaved a sigh of relief from the court’s decision. With this, the admission of a child above five years of age who is eligible to go to first class will not be stopped. With this decision, the way has been cleared for about 50 thousand children in the state to get admission in the first class.

Petitioner’s lawyer Suman Thakur said that the High Court has termed the notification issued by the state government on February 16, 2024 as unfair and biased. The court has said that snatching away the right to education from children is a violation of their fundamental rights.

The Central Government had issued guidelines to the Himachal Government in the year 2021 to implement the National Education Policy, 2020 in a phased manner, however, the government did not take any action in this regard for three years.
