The work of demolishing the illegal part of Shimla’s Sanjauli Masjid, which made headlines, is going on. On the orders of the Municipal Corporation Commissioner Court, the Mosque Committee is engaged in the work of demolishing the illegal portion. Three-four laborers have been deployed for this. On the third day of demolition, the workers removed the tin roof on the attic i.e. top floor of the mosque. It took workers more than two days to remove it. Now the work remains to remove the iron angles from the attic of the mosque.
Big challenge ahead, work may be put on hold
After this the work of demolishing two illegal floors will begin. More laborers will be required for this. Since the mosque is built in a residential area, JCB cannot be used for demolition. The work of demolishing the illegal part of Sanjauli Masjid may hang in the balance. Lack of funds is coming in the way of demolition work. Due to this the work is not being done at a fast pace. Till now only the roof sheets of the upper part have been removed. Demolition work has not started yet.
A large number of laborers are needed
Actually, the mosque is built in a residential area. There are many buildings nearby. In such a situation, a large number of laborers are required to demolish the illegal three floors. The court has directed the mosque committee to ensure the safety of surrounding buildings during the demolition work. The Mosque Committee is short of funds. The mosque committee says that the demolition work will cost lakhs. They don’t have that much funds.
It may take three to four months
Sanjauli Masjid Committee head Latif Mohammad said that funds are being arranged. We have not received help from the state government or any other organization. A lot of funds are required for the work, so it may take three to four months to demolish the illegal portion. The court will be requested to give additional time in the next hearing.
Ready to provide financial help: Cabinet Minister Anirudh Singh
On the lack of funds being faced by the Mosque Committee for demolishing the illegal part of the mosque, State Government’s Rural Development and Panchayati Raj Minister Anirudh Singh said that till now the Mosque Committee has not come to meet him on this issue. If they come to visit in future, he will definitely help them. Congress is known for helping everyone. He is ready to help financially and in the form of labour.
Whitewashing is being done: Devbhoomi Sangharsh Samiti
Devbhoomi Sangharsh Samiti, which agitated against the mosque, raised questions on the speed of demolition. Bharat Bhushan, convener of Devbhoomi Sangharsh Samiti, said that the work of demolishing the mosque is not being done at a fast pace. Where did the funds come from when the mosque was constructed? Only tin sheets have been removed in three days. The Municipal Corporation Commissioner, who is a registered court, has ordered the mosque committee to demolish the illegal portion at its own expense. Two months time has been given for this.
