It is worth noting that wrestler Vinesh Phogat’s performance in the Paris Olympics was quite explosive. She made it to the finals by registering one brilliant victory after another. But just before the final, Vinesh was disqualified due to being 100 grams overweight. After this, she retired from wrestling and went into politics a few days after returning to India. Her fellow wrestler Bajrang Punia has also joined the Congress. However, he is not contesting the elections this time. Vinesh Phogat is contesting from Julana on a Congress ticket in the Haryana Assembly elections.

Recently, Vinesh had given a statement in which she claimed that she did not get much support from the Indian Olympic Association. She also criticized IOA President PT Usha. Vinesh alleges that PT Usha had secretly taken a photo in the hospital without informing her. Later, by posting this photo on social media, she was showing solidarity with Vinesh.

Addressing a public meeting in Julana after filing her nomination, Vinesh Phogat said that wrestling teaches us that we should not take the enemy lightly. We worked hard. The people of Julana consider me their daughter more than their daughter-in-law. Vinesh is from Balali in Charkhi Dadri district, but her in-laws are in Julana. Bakhta Kheda village in Julana is the native village of her husband Somveer Rathi. Referring to the protests by wrestlers, Vinesh said that they had to struggle on the streets and face lathicharge.
