Congress is in shock after the defeat in Haryana Assembly elections. Meetings are being held one after the other and a fact finding committee has been formed to find out the reasons for the defeat. Meanwhile, now India alliance partner Aam Aadmi Party has also targeted Congress regarding the election results. You have said that if they (Congress) had not become so arrogant, they would have had a government in Haryana today. BJP is going to form the government in Haryana by registering victory for the third consecutive time. In the results of assembly elections, BJP got 48 seats, while Congress could win only 37 seats.
After the defeat in Haryana, on Congress filing a fresh complaint with the Election Commission regarding EVM malfunction, AAP Haryana chief Sushil Gupta said, “We had made every possible effort to oust BJP from power. We waited till the last moment for alliance in Haryana. Today Congress can blame or introspect, but if they had not been so arrogant then we would have never made unreasonable demands. We did not demand too many seats…Today I think that Congress will not be able to oust BJP from power in Haryana. Farewell to BJP.”
‘Had there been an alliance, the results would have been different’
Earlier, reacting immediately after the election results, AAP state president Sushil Gupta had said that if there was an alliance like in the Lok Sabha elections, the results would have been different. Both parties were part of the opposition India Alliance in the Lok Sabha elections. Gupta said, “If the alliance (AAP-Congress) had also participated in this (Haryana) assembly elections, the results would have been different…” According to Gupta, many senior AAP leaders are in jail in ‘fake’ cases. Due to this, he had to face challenging situations during the election campaign.
AAP also suffered a crushing defeat in Haryana
The Haryana Assembly election results proved to be a major setback for AAP, which was hoping to make a mark in the elections. The party has not got a single seat and the state unit’s senior vice president Anurag Dhanda has faced a major defeat. There were attempts for an alliance between Congress and Aam Aadmi Party in Haryana. Several rounds of meetings were held between senior leaders of both the parties regarding the alliance, but in the end no coordination could be made on the seats. After this both the parties contested the elections separately. Aam Aadmi Party has also caused loss to Congress on some seats.
