There is a big game going on to turn on dead mobile phones with software from Ukraine. Software vendors have their own nexus in many districts of Bihar. After turning on the dead mobile phones with the help of software, their IMEI number is being changed. The police of the cyber police station has started identifying such software vendors.
It is being told that many women are doing the work of delivering dead mobiles to these shopkeepers. Among these women, who roam around the locality and exchange utensils are more active. They take old or broken mobile phones from people in exchange of utensils. Then they sell those dead mobiles to software shopkeepers for Rs. 200 to 500. The shopkeepers turn on the same mobile with foreign software and tamper with the IMEI number. In this way many different mobiles are getting turned on with one IMEI number, but the person in whose name this mobile was registered does not even get to know about it.
Muzaffarpur Cyber Thanedaar cum DSP Seema Dagar said that during the investigation, they caught a utensil exchanger. On interrogating her, it was found that there are many such women in the city who exchange dead mobile phones for utensils. They know that dead mobile phones are always on, so they mostly exchange mobile phones.
Problems will increase if the mobile goes in wrong hands
He said that whenever the shopkeeper switches on the switched off mobile, its IMEI number will be different. Many times, many mobiles are switched on and sold using the same number. In such a case, innocent people get caught when the mobile goes into the wrong hands.
After the arrest, 70 percent of the city’s shopkeepers went underground
After the arrest of Motijheel mobile shopkeeper Om alias Chiranjeevi in the case of changing the IMEI number of mobile phones using Ukrainian software, many software shopkeepers of the city have gone underground. A shopkeeper of Motijheel said that after Om’s arrest, many shopkeepers are not coming to their shops out of fear. City police station and cyber police station arrested Om alias Chiranjeevi on Friday.
Cyber police station incharge Seema Dagar said that a list of shopkeepers who tamper with mobile phones in an illegal manner has been prepared. Before going to jail, Om has given the police the names and addresses of many shopkeepers associated with the gang during interrogation. The police will verify the names and addresses and take separate action against them.
