A case has come to light in Gujarat’s Panchmahal district where a person was beaten up and tied to the bonnet of a car and taken around on the charge of theft. The police have registered a case against the victim as well as the two accused who beat him up. Giving information about the incident on Saturday, Deputy Superintendent of Police NY Patel said that this incident took place on August 29 in Kanku Thambla village of Godhra taluka, when two people accused him of stealing from a shop. The victim says that he had bought three packets of seeds for Rs. 30, for which he forgot to pay.
Whereas according to the police officer, the accused allegedly caught the victim while he was trying to steal fertilizer from the shop. After which they beat him up. The police along with the people came to know about this incident when the video of the victim on the car bonnet went viral on social media.
The Deputy Superintendent of Police said that ‘After the video surfaced, the Godhra Taluka Police came to know about the incident and we registered an FIR under the Indian Justice Code against Ganpatsinh Parmar and Manubhai Charan who assaulted him and tied him to the bonnet and paraded him. Both are accused of wrongfully confining the youth, beating him, insulting him, etc. Along with this, on the complaint of the accused, the police have also registered a case of attempted theft against the victim Sujan Bhavri (30).’
The victim says that he did not steal, but took three packets of seeds for 30 rupees, but forgot to pay the change. The officer of Godhra Taluka Police Station said, ‘The shopkeeper thought that the victim had paid him 500 rupees, so after deducting 30 rupees, he returned 470 rupees to him. However, after this the accused chased him and accused him of theft and beat him up.’
Police further said that the claims and counter-claims of both the parties are being investigated.
