Police in Himachal Pradesh’s Solan district on Tuesday arrested three students on charges of ragging. The incident took place at a private university located in Kandaghat in the district. The accused students allegedly ragged an MBA first year student and asked him to drink alcohol, and when he refused, they beat him up. After the case came to light, the university administration expelled the three accused students from the university.
Giving information about this, the police said that the name of the complainant student is Rajat Kumar, who said in his complaint that on Saturday night two students came to his room number 216 in the hostel and told him that the seniors were calling him and when he refused to go, they forcibly took him to room number 416.
The complainant alleged that as soon as he entered, the seniors locked the room and asked him to drink alcohol. When he refused, he was beaten up and the ragging continued till the next morning.
SP Solan Gaurav Singh said that on the complaint of Rajat Kumar, a case has been registered under Section 115 (2) of the Indian Penal Code (BNS) for voluntarily causing hurt, Section 127 (2) for wrongful confinement and Section 3 of the Himachal Pradesh Educational Institutions (Prohibition of Ragging) Act 2009. And three students of the university have been arrested in this case.
The police officer further said that the arrested accused students include Karan Dogra (19) from Udhampur in Jammu and Kashmir, Chirag Rana (19) from Mandi in Himachal Pradesh and Divyansh (19) from Hamirpur in the same state. Police say that further investigation is going on in this case.
