A fugitive criminal involved in several heinous crimes including murder and drug trafficking was deported to India from Austria on Friday, a Punjab Police official said. The criminal Amritpal Singh hails from Bhoma village in Batala. The Punjab Police took him into custody at the Indira Gandhi International Airport in New Delhi.
Punjab Director General of Police (DGP) Gaurav Yadav said in a post on the social media platform ‘X’, “After tireless efforts by the Punjab Police in coordination with central agencies, Amritpal Singh has been brought to India from Austria to face charges in several serious criminal cases.”
Amripal Singh was a proclaimed offender and was living illegally in Austria. DGP Yadav said the accused has been involved in various heinous crimes including murder, attempt to murder, drug-related crimes and violation of Arms Act. Batla Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Suhail Qasim Mir said Singh was a proclaimed offender in several cases and fled to Austria via Dubai and Serbia in 2022.
