Jaunpur News: An interesting news has come out from a small village in Jaunpur district of Uttar Pradesh. Many Muslim families in this village not only changed their religion but also changed their surnames along with their names. Now names like Naushad Dubey, Ashraf Dubey and Siraj Shukla are heard in this village. They believe that their ancestors were Brahmins, who later converted to Islam. However, this change has been made only by the head of the family, and the rest of the members have not made any change in their names.
Interesting story of Dehri village
Dehri village, located 35 kilometers away from Jaunpur, came into limelight when the Muslim population here started adopting Hinduism. Many families started rearing cows and now cow sheds, milk and curd have become common in the village. After this change, the question arises in the minds of people that why religious conversion is taking place on such a large scale in Dehri village.
Why did the religious conversion happen?
The people of Dehri village consider their religious conversion as ‘homecoming’ and not religious conversion. Naushad Ahmed Dubey, a resident here, says that his ancestors were Brahmins, who later adopted Islam. Seven generations ago his ancestor, Lal Bahadur Dubey, converted to Islam and changed his name to Lal Mohammad Sheikh.
Reason for changing name
The villagers believe that surnames like ‘Sheikh’, ‘Pathan’, and ‘Sayyid’ are borrowed, and have now returned to their old religion. That’s why he has started adding ‘Dubey’ and ‘Shukla’ to his name. Not Naushad Ahmed, but now he likes to listen to ‘Naushad Dubey’ more. He says that people often ask him why he wears ‘Dube’. He says, “Sheikh is used by Arabs, ‘Mirza’ is a Turkish title, and Mongols, the descendants of the Mughals, use ‘Khan’. So why should we adopt these names? We will not borrow anything.”
