Jhansi News: State Women’s Commission member Anupama Singh Lodhi heard serious complaints related to harassment of women during the public hearing held at Vikas Bhawan Auditorium on Tuesday. During this time, a victim woman accused a sub-inspector of Kotwali area that he called her to the police post and spoke nonsense. The woman told that when she had gone to Minerva outpost with her complaint, there was no woman constable there. The inspector told him publicly, “You remain like Panchali, then there will be no quarrel.” The member of the Women’s Commission expressed her displeasure after hearing this and immediately reprimanded the Inspector on the phone and ordered that the victimized women coming to the police station should be talked to decently in the presence of the female policeman and their problems should be resolved. The woman says that her husband and in-laws want to throw her and the children out of the house, hence they are defaming her by making false allegations against her.
Subsequently, other serious complaints also came up in the public hearing. A young woman from Premnagar police station area alleged that the police is not registering a report on her complaint, while her neighbors are cutting and selling the meat of animals without a license, due to which filth and foul smell are spreading in the area. When he complained, they beat him several times.
Similarly, a woman resident of Sadar Bazar also complained that the police was not registering the report of the crime committed against her and was pressurizing her to resign by calling her to the police station. On all these complaints, Women’s Commission member Anupama Singh Lodhi took immediate action and gave instructions to the concerned officials and ensured that appropriate steps were taken to protect the rights of women.
