Jharkhand New DGP: Senior IPS officer of Jharkhand cadre, Ajay Kumar Singh has been appointed as the new Director General of Police of the state. The Election Commission has issued orders for the appointment of Ajay Kumar Singh. IPS Ajay Kumar Singh has been posted in place of Anurag Gupta.
IPS Ajay Kumar Singh is a 1989 batch officer. He was selected for the post of DGP of Jharkhand from a panel of three IPS officers. After the names were sent to the state government, the Election Commission issued the appointment orders. It is noteworthy that IPS Anurag Gupta has been removed from the post of DGP with immediate effect. Assembly elections are to be held in Jharkhand next month. The Election Commission has taken this step after continuous complaints against IPS Anurag Gupta.
Many complaints were received against IPS Anurag Gupta in the last elections. Due to these complaints, the Election Commission has taken the decision to remove him from the post of Director General of Police with immediate effect. The Election Commission has taken this decision when assembly elections are about to be held in the state. In such a situation, IPS Ajay Kumar Singh faces many challenges.
Complaints received against IPS Anurag Gupta
Jharkhand Mukti Morcha (JMM) had accused IPS Anurag Gupta of biased conduct during the 2019 general elections. After this complaint, he was relieved of the responsibilities of Additional Director General of Police (Special Branch), Jharkhand. After this he was posted in the office of Resident Commissioner in Delhi.
IPS Anurag Gupta was barred from returning to Jharkhand until the election process was over in 2019. Not only this, even before this, during the Governor by-election in the year 2016, Anurag Gupta was accused of misuse of office. At that time he was working on the post of Additional Director General of Police. After receiving this complaint, an inquiry committee was formed against him. On whose recommendation, orders for a departmental inquiry were issued against him. Not only this, an FIR was also registered against Anurag Gupta in the year 2018 in Jagannathpur police station in the same case.
