Kangana Ranaut's film Emergency will not be allowed to run in Punjab, SGPC announces

BJP MP and actress Kangana Ranaut’s film Emergency, which was embroiled in controversies before its release, will not be allowed to run in Punjab. This decision was taken in the internal committee meeting of Shiromani Gurdwara Parbandhak Committee (SGPC) held on Saturday. Shiromani Gurdwara Management Committee has said that the film Emergency will not be allowed to be released under any circumstances. While talking to journalists during the internal committee meeting, Shiromani Committee chief Harjinder Singh Dhami said, “BJP MP and actress Kangana Ranaut’s film Emergency will not be allowed to be released because the great personality of Sikhism, Jarnail, is featured in this film.” The character of Singh Khalsa Bhindranwale has been misrepresented. Any kind of tampering with Sikh history will not be tolerated.

Public interest litigation has been filed in the High Court

Last month, Shiromani Gurdwara Parbandhak Committee had filed a PIL in the Punjab-Haryana High Court demanding a ban on Bollywood actress and BJP MP Kangana Ranaut’s film Emergency. SGPC had also sent a legal notice to the makers of the film Emergency, accusing them of allegedly misrepresenting the character and history of the Sikh community. The petition filed in the High Court states that wrong historical facts have been depicted in the trailer of the film, making it clear that the film will promote hatred towards the Sikh community. An attempt has been made to destroy the social fabric of Punjab through the film. A demand has also been made to cancel the certificate issued to the Center and the Central Board of Film Certification for the release. Along with this, a demand has also been made to direct Punjab DGP to register an FIR against Kangana Ranaut and others associated with the film.

Censor Board refused to release the film without cuts

The path for the release of Kangana Ranaut’s film Emergency has not been cleared. The Censor Board has made it clear in the court that it will not give the green signal for the release of the film without cuts, while Kangana has said on Friday that she will not make any cuts in emergency. The actress said that a suggestion has been received from the Censor Board to make 13 cuts in the film but these suggestions are quite unfair and her team is adamant on this. He bluntly said that his team is determined to maintain the authenticity of the film and hence will not tamper with it. Earlier this film was scheduled to release on 6 September. But it is stuck due to not getting the clearance certificate from the Central Board of Film Certification. Its makers have filed an application in the Bombay High Court.
