The investigation into the rape and murder of a trainee doctor at Kolkata’s RG Kar Medical College and Hospital seems to be getting complicated. The main suspect Sanjay Roy is constantly denying these allegations. He has also denied his involvement in the polygraph test conducted by the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI). India Today’s report quoted sources as saying, ‘Roy said that he fled from the scene after seeing the doctor’s body in the hospital.’ It is being said that the CBI asked Sanjay Roy 10 questions during the polygraph test. During this, 3 polygraph experts including an officer of the investigating agency were present.
Accused Sanjay Roy, a former Kolkata Police volunteer, had confessed to the crime after his arrest on August 10. However, he has now retracted his confession. He says he is being framed and is innocent. The prime suspect underwent a polygraph test on August 25 at Presidency Central Jail in Kolkata, where he is lodged. It is also worth noting that the results of polygraph tests are not admissible as evidence in court. Sanjay Roy told CBI officials during the test, “I did not commit the murder. I had fled from the seminar hall after seeing the body.” However, he also made several misleading statements during the polygraph test.
The accused’s Bluetooth headset was found in the seminar hall
Sanjay Roy was arrested on the basis of CCTV footage of Kolkata’s RG Kar Hospital. He was arrested a day after the gruesome murder (10 August). His Bluetooth headset was also found inside the seminar hall of the hospital where the incident took place. Sanjay Roy’s lawyer Kavita Sarkar shared some more information about the polygraph test. She said that he is constantly claiming himself innocent. According to the report, the accused was asked what he did next after killing the woman? In response to this, he told the officials that this question itself is wrong because he did not commit murder.
Sanjay Roy started crying as soon as the hearing of the case started
Let us tell you that a Kolkata court rejected Sanjay Roy’s bail plea on Friday and sent him to judicial custody till September 20. The lawyers associated with the case were present in the court, while the accused appeared through video conference. CBI sources said that when the hearing of the case started, Roy started crying. Roy’s lawyer appointed by the State Legal Aid requested bail and said that his client has been framed. At the same time, the CBI lawyer, who arrived in the court 40 minutes late, opposed the bail plea, saying that this would hamper the investigation of the case. After hearing both the parties, the Justice sent Roy to judicial custody for 14 days. Earlier, the judge expressed displeasure over the absence of the CBI investigating officer and lawyer.
