Kolkata news: On Saturday, tension spread in Kolkata when there was a clash between the police and the protesters. This march was moving towards the West Bengal Secretariat (Nabanna) under the leadership of a woman’s parents in RG Kar Medical College and Hospital a year ago.
Victim’s mother accused: woman police misbehaved
The victim’s mother alleged that when she was going to join the procession, women policemen shocked her. During this time, his Shankha (traditional conch bangle) broke and headed head.
He said, “We just want to go to Nabanna and ask for justice for our daughter, then why are we stopping us?”
The victim’s father also alleged that the police prevented the family from reaching Dhorina Crossing despite being allowed by the court.
The protesters demanded resignation from Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee and accused of failure in the safety of women.
Freak in nabanna march
During the rally, the protesters broke the police barricade and started moving towards the secretariat. Even after warning, he proceeded, after which the police lathi -charged.
Some protesters arrived in Santragachhi in Howrah district and tried to break an iron barricade.
Under the ‘Nabanna Chalo Abhiyan’, the protesters reiterated the demand for justice to the victim by doing RG and said that even if the police fired, they will reach Nabanna and reply from the government.
The people involved in the march were carrying the tricolor flag, posters and banners, on which the demand for justice and the resignation of the Chief Minister was written.
Opposition picket
Leader of Opposition in the Assembly Shubhendu Adhikari, BJP leader Agnimitra Paul and other MLA Park Street-JL. Nehru sat on a dharna at the road intersection. The official claims that more than 100 protesters in police action, including many BJP leaders and the victim’s parents, were injured.
Both Kolkata and Howrah were increasing the crowd of protesters at both, while the police kept everyone from reaching Nabanna from reaching Nabanna.
What happened in RG Kar Hospital?
On 9 August 2024, the body of 31 -year -old PG Trainee Doctor was found in the seminar hall of the Department of Chest Medicine located on the fourth floor of the emergency building of the hospital. After this incident, students, doctors and people of civil society took to the streets.
The Kolkata police first investigated, then the High Court handed it over to the CBI. In January 2025, a civic volunteer Sanjay Roy was convicted and sentenced to life imprisonment, but the victim’s family and human rights activists say the matter is not over yet.
After this, the then principal of the hospital, Sandeep Ghosh and former in -charge of Talat police station Abhijeet Mandal were arrested on charges of wandering. However, Mandal got bail when the charge sheet was not filed in 90 days.
