Maharashtra Politics: The Election Commission has not yet announced the dates for the assembly elections in Maharashtra, but all political parties are seen in full election mode. Discussions are going on regarding seat sharing between the parties involved in the ruling Mahayuti and the opposition Mahavikas Aghadi alliance. There is a problem regarding seats in the Mahavikas Aghadi alliance (MVA) as Shiv Sena (Uttar Pradesh) leader Uddhav Thackeray and NCP chief Sharad Pawar have demanded many such seats, to which the Congress has objected. Congress seems angry with the demands made by both the leaders. However, the party has expressed hope that the seat dispute will be resolved through talks.
Uddhav faction made a big demand
Leaving aside other parts of the state, there is no harmony between the three major parties in the Mahavikas Aghadi alliance regarding the assembly seats of Mumbai. There are 36 assembly seats in Mumbai and the Uddhav faction has demanded 21 of these seats. The party has not only demanded seats but has also started election preparations on all these seats. On the other hand, the Sharad Pawar faction of the NCP has demanded seven seats. The party says that considering the strength of the party on many seats in Mumbai, it should get a chance to contest elections on these seats. Party chief Sharad Pawar has demanded Andheri West, Versova, Kurla, Anushakti Nagar, Dahisar, Ghatkopar East and Ghatkopar West seats of Mumbai. In such a situation, only eight seats are left for the Congress to contest in the Mumbai region. Congress does not seem ready to contest elections on so few seats in Mumbai. Congress has also expressed displeasure over this attitude of the allies.
Congress leader claimed a big victory
However, senior Congress leader Bala Saheb Thorat has claimed that this time the Maha Vikas Aghadi alliance will be successful in forming the government in the Maharashtra assembly elections. He said that there are 288 seats in the Maharashtra Legislative Assembly and the MVA will be successful in winning more than 180 of these seats. He claimed that an agreement has been reached between the parties involved in the Maha Vikas Aghadi alliance on 125 seats and talks are going on regarding the remaining seats. He expressed hope that an agreement will be reached on other seats soon.
There is a problem regarding the CM face as well
Along with seat sharing in Maharashtra, there is a problem regarding the CM face as well. Uddhav Thackeray is adamant on the demand of declaring the CM face before the elections while Sharad Pawar and Congress are not ready for this. Despite this, the alliance is claiming to win the elections and form the government.
Election dates likely to be announced soon
The dates for the assembly elections in Maharashtra have not been announced yet, but experts believe that the commission may take steps in this direction soon. Assembly elections are expected to be held in the state in November. This is the reason why all political parties have started making their own strategies. Due to lack of agreement on seats, election campaigning has not yet started in a planned manner in various assembly constituencies.
Why is the opposition camp looking excited?
During the recent Lok Sabha elections in Maharashtra, the Maha Vikas Aghadi alliance showed its strength. There are 48 Lok Sabha seats in Maharashtra and the alliance won 30 of these seats in the Lok Sabha elections. The ruling Mahayuti suffered a major setback during the Lok Sabha elections. The ruling camp was able to win only 17 seats. An independent candidate won one seat. However, later this independent MP also announced support to the Congress. After the results of the Lok Sabha elections were declared, there is a new enthusiasm among the opposition parties. Political experts believe that this is the reason why the opposition alliance is claiming to win a big victory during the assembly elections as well.
