Four employees died due to leakage of poisonous gas at a chemical plant located in Dahej in Bharuch district of Gujarat. Dahej police station inspector B.M. Patidar said that at around 10 pm on Saturday night, the workers in a production unit of ‘Gujarat Fluorochemicals Limited’ (GFL) fell unconscious due to poisonous gas leaking from the pipe. The four employees were admitted to a private hospital in Bharuch, the official said, of which three died around 3 am on Sunday, while another one died at 6 am.
The police officer said, “The incident happened around 10 pm. Four employees fell unconscious due to gas leakage from a pipe passing through the ground floor of the company’s CMS plant. They were taken to a private hospital, where all four died.
Two of the dead were from Uttar Pradesh
The official said that the bodies have been sent for postmortem and investigation into the incident is ongoing. Police said that the deceased have been identified as Rajesh Kumar (Gujarat), Mudrika Yadav (Jharkhand), Sushit Prasad and Mahesh Nandlal (both from Uttar Pradesh). Dahej-based GFL Deputy General Manager Jignesh Parmar told reporters that they would investigate the matter and a compensation of Rs 25 lakh each would be given to the families of the deceased.
The company will cooperate in the investigation
GFL Deputy General Manager said, “The company and management are saddened by this incident. We have promised to cooperate with the authorities and we will investigate the matter and submit our report.” Bharuch sub-divisional magistrate Manisha Manani said, “Four people have died due to gas leak at the GFL plant near Ambeta village. Death occurred. The bodies have been sent to Bharuch Civil Hospital for postmortem and investigation into the case is underway. (Input- PTI language)
