A Muslim cleric in Madhya Pradesh’s Ratlam city appealed to his community members to stay away from Garba (folk dance) programs during the Navratri festival. The Maulvi gave the reasoning behind this and said that it is against his faith. The city’s Muslim chief Maulvi Syed Ahmed Ali wrote a letter to his community. Said in it that I request Muslim youth, mothers, sisters and daughters not to go to fairs and not watch the Garba program. Instead, I call on you to stay at home considering the situation.
He said that such activities are prohibited in Islam. Talking to PTI, Maulvi said that he has said this keeping in mind the current situation. Organizers of many Garba programs in Ratlam city have banned the entry of non-Hindus. They have also put up banners with such orders at the entry points. Meanwhile, the senior officer said that women policemen are patrolling around the Garba sites on motorcycles. So that Navratri can be completed without any incident.
SP Amit Kumar said that teams of 25 women policemen have been formed. These people will patrol around the Garba Pandal from 7 pm to 1 am. So that any kind of incident can be prevented from happening. Earlier, a BJP leader had courted controversy when he had requested the organizers to make people perform achaman or make them drink cow urine before going to Garba pandals. For this he argued that a Hindu can never refuse this ritual.
