A factory manufacturing Mephedrone has been busted in Valsad district of Gujarat. From where three people were arrested. Drugs worth Rs 25 crore have been seized from the factory. This information was given by the Directorate of Revenue Intelligence (DRI) on Wednesday. Acting on a specific information, DRI teams from Surat and Vapi conducted search operations at various locations in GIDC (Industrial Estate) at Umargam and Dehri in Valsad district, the central agency said in a press release.
The action was taken on Tuesday under the NDPS Act, 1985 and the GIDC area-based factory ‘M/s Saurav Creations’ was found to be involved in the illegal manufacturing of synthetic drug Mephedrone, the release said. The DRI said a team from the Forensic Science Laboratory, Valsad, confirmed the presence of mephedrone in the suspected psychotropic substance found in the factory.
17.3 kg MD recovered
The DRI said a total of 17.3 kg of MD in liquid form was recovered from the unit. A team from the Narcotics Cell of Gujarat CID assisted in the operation. “The illicit market value of the psychotropic substances seized from the unit is approximately Rs 25 crore,” it said. According to the release, three people were arrested under relevant sections of the NDPS Act and further investigation is underway.
“This action highlights DRI’s continued efforts to curb the increasing use of synthetic drugs and misuse by industrial units involved in the manufacturing of these drugs,” the statement said. (input language)
