The District Consumer Disputes Redressal Commission of Chandigarh has given an important verdict in a case related to railways. The court ordered IRCTC, Chandigarh and Indian Railways to return Rs 477 spent on two tickets. Also, it was said to pay compensation of Rs 10,000. The whole matter is that due to technical reasons a train was diverted, due to which a couple missed the train. Bharatendu Sood, a resident of Chandigarh, had complained about this. He said that on November 29, 2022, I booked 2 railway tickets for Rs 477.70. I had to go from Gurgaon to Chandigarh on December 13 with my wife Neelu Sood.
The complainant said that when they reached Chandigarh station to board the train, a message came on their mobile number. It said that due to technical reasons, the train will not come to Gurgaon on December 13. The Sood couple said that after missing the train, they caught a bus to go to Chandigarh. A week later, they sent an email to IRCTC and demanded a refund of the ticket amount. But, they were told that the refund cannot be done because the complainants did not apply within 72 hours at the boarding station. The complaint said, ‘The complainants are senior citizens. In such a situation, it was not possible for them to apply for a refund at the boarding station.’
Decision in favor of complainant
The District Consumer Disputes Redressal Commission, after hearing both the parties, ruled in favour of the complainant. Thus, an order was issued to pay the ticket money and compensation to the couple. On the other hand, a coach of Amritsar-Howrah Mail caught fire on Saturday evening, one kilometre away from Amritsar railway station. Officials said that there were no casualties in this incident. The train going to Delhi was moving at a slow speed, when a coach caught fire near Jora Phatak in Amritsar. When the train driver came to know about this, the train was immediately stopped. Firefighters were immediately called to control the fire. The fire extinguishers present in the train were also used to control the fire.
