Ahmedabad: Congress leader Rahul Gandhi on Friday started his two -day Gujarat tour in view of the 2027 assembly elections. Here he indicated major changes in the state unit of the party and assured to implement a strong plan to defeat the BJP. Rahul reached Ahmedabad in the morning and held meetings with party leaders throughout the day. After landing at the airport here, the Leader of Opposition in the Lok Sabha went directly to the headquarters of Gujarat Congress located in Paladi area of the city. The party said in a statement that they first met senior leaders of the party including former Congress presidents of the state and former Leader of Opposition in the Assembly (LOP). After this, during the day he attended a meeting with members of the State Political Affairs Committee.
BJP has been in power in Gujarat since 1995
The Congress said in a statement on Thursday that Rahul Gandhi had earlier said that the party would win the Gujarat assembly elections in 2027 and he will visit the state to start work for the election. BJP has been in power in Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s home state of Gujarat since 1995. Rahul Gandhi held a meeting with the district and city presidents of the Congress in the evening. He then interacted with about 400 taluka and municipal heads of the party.
KC Venugopal gave information
Talking to reporters in the evening, All India Congress Committee (AICC) General Secretary KC Venugopal said that Rahul Gandhi took opinion from the ground level party workers about what changes are needed to strengthen the party organization. After the meetings, Venugopal said, “The purpose of this meeting was to strengthen the party and its organization in Gujarat. Rahul Gandhi gave all his time to listen to party leaders at the block, district and state level. Our focus is on strengthening the party organization and that is why we are taking the opinion of local leaders. ”
Responsibility and accountability of new officials will be fixed
The Gujarat Congress said in a release that during its meetings, Gandhi asked the state unit to raise issues related to the local people. He assured local workers to bring major changes in the organization and said that the responsibility and accountability of the new officials will also be decided. Gandhi asked party leaders to raise issues related to unemployment, inflation, women’s safety and farmers’ plight in Gujarat. The release said that in his dialogue with the district presidents, he laid special emphasis on strengthening the organizational structure up to the booth level. He also urged the workers to start their preparations for the upcoming assembly elections. It said that Gandhi assured local leaders that the party is going to implement a strong plan to defeat the BJP in Gujarat.
AICC’s upcoming session on 8-9 April
According to the release, Gandhi will address party workers in Ahmedabad on Saturday and will leave for Delhi the same afternoon. The upcoming session of AICC is scheduled to be held in Ahmedabad on 8-9 April. It will be held in the state after 64 years. Party General Secretary K.K. to take stock of the preparations for the meeting. C. Venugopal visited Gujarat last Tuesday. The Congress won only 17 seats out of 182 seats in the state in the 2022 Gujarat assembly elections. However, after the resignation of five MLAs, the party’s member number in the House has come down to 12.
