Signs of departure of monsoon are visible in Himachal. The Meteorological Department has predicted that the weather will remain clear in the state for the next six days. Also, this year 18 percent less rainfall than average has been recorded.
There was sunshine in the plains and central mountainous areas including the capital Shimla of Himachal Pradesh on Sunday. The weather also remained clear in the tribal districts Lahaul-Spiti outside Kinnaur. Monsoon has remained slow in the state for the last two days. According to the Meteorological Department, monsoon is now at its last stage. This can be gauged from the fact that no warning has been issued regarding rain in the state for the next six days. The weather will be completely clear in the state from September 30 to October 5. The south-west monsoon will start withdrawing from the region in the first week of October.
Rainfall recorded 18 percent less than normal
So far this year, monsoon rainfall has been 18 percent less than normal. Monsoon had arrived in the state on June 28. In the three-month period from June 28 to September 28, the state has recorded 597 mm rainfall. 732 mm rainfall is considered normal during this period. There has been less rainfall than normal in 10 districts. 69 percent above normal in Lahaul-Spiti, 35 percent above normal in Chamba, 30 percent in Una, 28 percent in Hamirpur, 21-21 percent in Solan and Kinnaur, 19 percent in Kullu, three in Kangra, two in Sirmaur and one in Mandi. There was one percent less rainfall than normal.
More rain than normal in Shimla and Bilaspur
If we look at the entire state, 18 percent less rainfall was recorded than normal, but there were some areas where more than average rainfall was recorded. These areas include Shimla and Bilaspur. Shimla has received 15 percent more rainfall than normal and Bilaspur has received three percent more rainfall than normal. According to the Meteorological Department, there was sporadic rainfall at some places in the state during the last 24 hours. Palampur in Kangra district and Nahan, headquarters of Sirmaur district have recorded 13 mm rainfall each and Dhaula Kuan has recorded 9 mm rainfall.
Keylong of Lahaul-Spiti is the coldest, 6.7 degree mercury.
The minimum temperature on Sunday was 13.2 degrees in Shimla, 17.7 degrees in Sundernagar, 18.5 degrees in Bhuntar, 8.8 degrees in Kalpa, 17 degrees in Dharamshala, 20 degrees in Una, 20.2 degrees in Nahan, 6.7 degrees in Keylong, 16.5 degrees in Palampur, Solan. 17.2 degrees Celsius has been recorded in Manali, 12.5 degrees in Kangra, 19.3 degrees in Mandi, 21.5 degrees in Bilaspur, 16.7 degrees in Chamba, 11.9 degrees in Dalhousie, 16.9 degrees in Jubbarhatti and 8.2 degrees in Kukumseri.
21 roads closed due to landslides, 148 transformers damaged
Despite the weakening of monsoon, the roads in four districts of the state have not been restored yet. According to the State Emergency Operation Center, 21 roads remained closed due to landslides on Sunday. 10 roads are blocked in Kangra, seven in Sirmaur, three in Mandi and two in Kullu. Apart from this, there was power failure due to malfunction of 148 transformers. Maximum 124 transformers are stalled in Spiti division of Lahaul-Spiti and 20 in Lahaul division. Two transformers in Kullu and one transformer each in Chamba and Mandi are faulty.
