Bangladeshi citizen in police custody
The biggest action has been taken against Bangladeshi citizens living illegally in Gujarat. Ahmedabad Police has detailed 457 and Surat Police has detailed 120 Bangladeshi citizens. They have been detailed by performing a late night combing operation at Chandola Talb in Ahmedabad. For the last few years, the Chandola pond had become a major center of Bangladeshi citizens living illegally. In the last one year, the Ahmedabad Crime Branch has launched a campaign against them and has started to deport and detain them. Last year too, the police had detailed 127 Bangladeshi citizens from Chandola pond.
According to Gujarat Police, more than 550 illegal immigrants from Bangladesh living in India were detained in Ahmedabad and Surat with fake documents. The official said that after verification and inquiry, exile action will be taken. The coordinated campaign was led by several law enforcement units including Special Campaign Group (SOG), Crime Branch, Human Tiscuishing Unit (AHTU), Anti -Officers Branch (PCB) and local police teams.
Home built on the basis of fake paper
Officials confirmed that all the detained people were in India without legitimate documents and used fake documents to establish a residence. In Surat, more than 100 Bangladeshi citizens were detained as a result of an overnight search operation by SOG, DCB, AHTU, PCB and local police. Rajdeep Singh Naqum, Deputy Commissioner of the Special Campaign Group, said, “He illegally entered India and was living in Surat with fake documents. After investigation, he would be sent to Bangladesh.”
Campaign started early Saturday
A campaign was carried out simultaneously in Ahmedabad at around 3 am on Saturday. Crime Branch, SOG, Economic Offenses Branch (EOW), Zone 6 and Headquarters teams detained more than 450 persons on suspicion of illegal immigrants. DCP Crime Branch Ajit Rajian confirmed that more than 400 people were detained during the morning raids. Sharad Singhal, Joint Commissioner of Police of Crime Branch of Ahmedabad, said that this action was taken in compliance with the orders of the Home Minister, Police Commissioner and Director General of Police. He said, “The Home Minister, Police Commissioner and DGP had instructed us that illegal immigrants should be caught. The Crime Branch has filed two FIRs since April 2024. 127 illegal Bangladeshis were arrested and 77 were deported.”
Raids based on intelligence report
Singhal said that the latest raids in Ahmedabad were based on intelligence reports, indicating a large number of illegal immigrants in the Chandola region. “We got inputs that a large number of Bangladeshi were living in Chandola area.
