Police arrested 12 people, including DJ operators, in connection with the alleged stone pelting and violation of conditions during the Eid-e-Milad procession in Mandsaur, Madhya Pradesh, an official said on Tuesday. Superintendent of Police Abhishek Anand told PTI that two FIRs have been registered for stone pelting and violation of conditions related to the procession. “In connection with the FIRs, 12 people have been detained, of which six are DJ operators. The DJ systems of these people have also been seized,” he said.
More people will be identified after analysing the footage of the procession captured in CCTV cameras, the official said. He also warned of strict action against those spreading misinformation on social media about the incident. On Monday, police had tightened security in Mandsaur after a man came to the Kotwali police station and claimed he was attacked with sticks and stones were thrown at him during the procession.
Eid-e-Milad-un-Nabi is celebrated to commemorate the birthday of Prophet Muhammad. After the alleged incident, BJP state unit spokesperson and former Mandsaur MLA Yashpal Singh Sisodia claimed that the situation turned tense due to stone-pelting when the procession reached near Nehru Bus Stand. He told reporters that this led to a stampede-like situation and traders in the area had to shut their shops and business establishments.
