Ganesh Puja is celebrated with great pomp in Mumbai. On this auspicious occasion, the people of Mumbai have got the gift of a new bridge. Earlier it used to take them 30 minutes to cover a distance of just 1.5 km, now people will be able to cover this distance in a few minutes. The people there have got relief from a major traffic problem. On Tuesday night, local MP and Union Minister Piyush Goyal inaugurated the Akurli underpass. This will provide great relief to the residents of areas like Borivali, Kandivali, Malad and Dahisar.
Let us tell you that this work was pending for years. Piyush Goyal had a meeting with the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) on August 14 regarding this. It was opened within just 30 days. He said that this is a Ganesh Chaturthi gift not only for North Mumbai but for the entire city.
The Akurli section is one of the most important roads connecting Kandivali Railway Station to the Western Express Highway and further to the Lokhandwala Complex from the highway. The project was underway for several years. In 2020 and 2021 it was affected by the Covid-19 pandemic.
The biggest problem of this project was shifting the gas pipeline, power supply cable and water supply line. This work took about nine months. Due to being a busy area, work was allowed only for six hours at night. A large part of this project has been completed, but the metro work is yet to be completed.
The bridge was inaugurated by the area’s MP Piyush Goyal late last night. This will ease the movement of traffic towards Borivali. Since the metro needs expansion, the remaining work will be done during night time only. Metro movement will be restricted between 10 pm and 8 am every night for the next two weeks until the work is completed.
Local residents will now have no problem travelling towards Western Express Highway and Kandivali. Earlier, the biggest problem was near the Grovels Mall junction. With the inauguration of the bridge, people are hoping that the situation will improve.
