The continuous heavy rains in Mumbai have badly affected the activities of the entire city. From air services to road traffic, people had to face problems everywhere. It is being told that 11 flights had to be canceled and 14 flights were diverted. Due to heavy rains, operations on the airport runway were closed from 8:32 am to 8:43 am and then from 10:36 am to 10:55 am. During this time the visibility was reduced to just 300 meters, which caused a lot of difficulties in takeoff and landing.
Talking about road traffic, the condition has worsened due to waterlogging on Mumbai roads. BMC (Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation) workers are constantly engaged in draining out the water. BMC Commissioner Bhushan Gagrani is monitoring the rain situation from the control room. Roads in Belapur and many other areas of Navi Mumbai are flooded, due to which the movement of vehicles has become very slow. People are stranded at many places due to heavy traffic jam.
Talking about the impact on flights, IndiGo canceled 10 of its flights, out of which 5 were incoming flights. Air India canceled one flight from Mumbai. Many flights were diverted to Ahmedabad, Surat, Hyderabad, Indore and Goa’s Mopa airports. However, later all the flights returned to Mumbai. The airlines have requested passengers to keep checking their flight status and reach the airport on time, as the journey may be long due to slow traffic. Air India has also given the option of full refund or one-time free ticket booking to passengers who have booked for travel on 25 July 2024.
