An MD student from Muktsar district of Punjab committed suicide. He was doing PG at Maulana Azad Medical College, Delhi. On Sunday morning, the body of 25-year-old Navdeep Singh was found in the Parsi Anjuman Guest House. Navdeep had topped the 2017 NEET UG exam in the whole country. He was studying PG in Radiology. The news of his suicide has shaken the entire Muktsar. After the post-mortem, the body was handed over to the family.
Police said that Navdeep’s father was calling. When there was no response even after calling several times, he asked one of Navdeep’s friends to go and find out. The friend saw that Navdeep’s room was locked. Police said that prima facie Navdeep has committed suicide. The case is being investigated. No suicide note has been found from there.
When the NEET exam results were announced in June 2017, there was a wave of happiness across Muktsar. Navdeep Singh had secured the All India First Rank. He said that this was his only goal. He had scored 88% marks in the 12th standard exam. His father Gopal Singh is the principal of a government senior secondary school in Sarainaaga village. He said, I am a physics teacher. That is why my son was also inclined towards the field of science and he wanted to become a doctor.
According to the Indian Express report, Kapil Sharma, principal of Siyir Secondary School in Tamkot village, said, “When Navneet topped, Muktsar became famous. Many youths took inspiration from Navdeep and moved forward. He was also honored at the district level. We are very sad and shocked to hear the news of his suicide.” Dr. Singh’s friend said, “Gopal had talked to Navneet on Saturday evening. Navneet did not tell anything that would indicate that he could take such a step. He usually shared everything with his parents.”
