Cyclone Dana updates: There is panic in view of the transformation of the low pressure formed in the Bay of Bengal into Cyclone Dana. Schools and colleges have been closed in many districts in West Bengal and Odisha as a precautionary measure regarding Cyclone Dana. Apart from this, 197 trains have also been cancelled. Preparations regarding security have also started at Kolkata Airport, the capital of West Bengal. In a statement issued by the office of Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee, it has been said that caution will be increased on the beaches and fishermen have been prohibited from going into the sea.
Preparation to deal with cyclone
Both the governments of Odisha and Bengal have started the work of evacuating people from coastal areas to safe places. The Indian Coast Guard has also been put on high alert. According to the Meteorological Department, this cyclone will affect the coastal areas between October 23 and 25 at a speed of 100-120 km/hour. Fishermen have been given strict instructions not to go into the sea from 23rd to 25th October.
According to News 18 report, Odisha Revenue and Disaster Management Minister Suresh Pujari said that 800 cyclone shelters are ready in the state, where people will be evacuated to safe places. Apart from this, 500 temporary shelters have also been prepared in schools and colleges. Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi has ensured that 100 percent people from sensitive areas will be evacuated safely.
Precautionary steps in Bengal also
Meanwhile, Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee said that schools will remain closed in seven districts of Bengal from 23 to 26 October. People living in low-lying areas have been instructed to move to safe places. Along with this, necessary steps are being taken by the state government to deal with the cyclone.
Coast Guard and NDRF deployment
The Indian Coast Guard has deployed its ships and helicopters in the coastal areas which are continuously warning fishermen and sailors about the cyclone. Several teams of National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) have been deployed in Odisha and Bengal to respond to any emergency immediately. The Odisha government has sought 10 additional NDRF teams, while 17 Odisha Disaster Rapid Action Force teams have also been deployed in vulnerable districts.

South-Eastern Railways has canceled 94 trains passing through Odisha and 103 trains going towards the east of the state. Apart from this, five trains going from Assam have also been stopped as a precautionary measure. At the same time, it has been told from Kolkata Airport that there is a possibility of waterlogging due to heavy rains, hence due to the cyclone, the drainage system and other infrastructure of the airport is being checked.
