Panic has spread due to gas leakage from a chemical company’s factory in Ambarnath, Maharashtra. Chemical smoke has spread throughout the city, reducing visibility. People are having irritation in their eyes and throat. This has brought back memories of the 1984 Bhopal gas tragedy in people’s minds.
Videos from the city show the streets covered in a haze of smoke. People who have come in contact with it have covered their nose and mouth. It looks like the haze has completely enveloped the city.
NDTV has said in its report that the gas has reached the railway track, which has also ruled out the possibility of people leaving the city in an emergency. Efforts are on to detect the gas and find out the cause of the leak. Sources said that teams have also been sent to control the situation. Officials have asked people to stay inside their homes.
Let us tell you that on the night of 12th September, around 10 o’clock, a strong smell started coming from Morivali MIDC area. Many citizens started facing problems due to this. Meanwhile, the fire brigade was called on the spot. It was told that when the fire brigade officials investigated and inquired, no gas was found coming out from any company in MIDC.
However, the smoke spreading in the city caused a lot of panic among the citizens. According to the information received, citizens suffered health problems due to the spread of chemicals in the air from the Nikchem Chemical Company. Many people suffered from sore throat and burning sensation in the eyes.
At present, air pollution is being monitored by the mobile van of the Air Pollution Control Board. The exact gas is being checked. The administration has also said that the situation is under control and there is no need to panic.
