Amid the controversy over Rahul Gandhi’s remarks in the US on the Sikh community and reservation and the Congress’ pre-poll alliance with the National Conference in Jammu and Kashmir, Prime Minister Modi said some hate-filled people are leaving no stone unturned to defame the country.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Monday alleged that some people filled with hatred and negativity want to destroy India’s unity and integrity.The remarks came in the backdrop of controversial remarks made by Congress MP Rahul Gandhi in the US.On his first visit to his home state Gujarat after assuming office for the third consecutive term on June 9, Modi laid the foundation stone or inaugurated various projects worth Rs 8,000 crore in Ahmedabad, including the Bhuj-Ahmedabad ‘NaMo Bharat’ rapid rail, the first Vande Bharat Metro service and flagged off five Vande Bharat Express trains.
Addressing a gathering, Modi, without naming anyone, said they (opposition) can cross any limit for the politics of appeasement. “Some people filled with negativity are targeting India’s unity and integrity with an intent to divide the country. People filled with hatred are leaving no opportunity to defame India and Gujarat,” he alleged. Modi said he was insulted, ridiculed and mocked by the opposition in the first 100 days of his third term as prime minister but he focused on fulfilling the government’s development agenda during this period.
He said, “When every Indian is trying to take the country forward, some people full of negativity want to destroy the unity and integrity of the country. “You have heard that they want to bring back Article 370 in Jammu and Kashmir, they (the poll-bound) want to bring back two constitutions and two laws in Jammu and Kashmir,” Modi said, two days ahead of the first phase of assembly elections in the Union Territory of Jammu and Kashmir. Modi said that in the first 100 days (of the BJP-led NDA government’s third term), they (the opposition) mocked him, ridiculed him and insulted him. “People were surprised by my silence,” the prime minister said.

Modi said he has decided to sacrifice himself for the people. “If I win, I win for you, if I struggle, I struggle for you and if I sacrifice myself, it will be for you,” he said. The BJP has accused Leader of Opposition in Lok Sabha Rahul Gandhi of making “anti-reservation” remarks in the US and termed it “treason”.
Speaking at the prestigious Georgetown University in the US, Gandhi had alleged that the Lok Sabha elections were not fought on a level playing field. Leader of Opposition in the Lok Sabha Gandhi had claimed, “The Election Commission was doing what they (BJP) wanted. The entire campaign was designed in such a way that (Prime Minister Narendra) Modi could run his agenda across the country.” Earlier in the day, Modi interacted with beneficiaries of the ‘PM Surya Ghar: Free Electricity Scheme’ in the Vavol area of Gandhinagar, the capital of Gujarat.
He reached Shalin-2 Society at around 10 am and interacted with residents of several households who have installed solar panels on their rooftops under the Centre’s ambitious scheme launched on February 29 at a cost of Rs 75,021 crore. The Prime Minister spent 20 minutes at the residential complex. The scheme aims to increase solar rooftop capacity and empower residential households to generate their own power. It provides a subsidy of 60 per cent of the solar unit cost for systems up to two kW capacity and 40 per cent of the additional cost for systems between 2 to 3 kW capacity.
