Sports grounds will be developed on a large scale under MNREGA in Bihar. The Rural Development Department has also started work on this. The aim is to prepare the estimate for the construction of the ground and get approval by November 2024 and start the work. In this, cooperation of Education, Sports and Panchayati Raj Department will also be taken. MNREGA will not only develop the grounds but also running tracks for players, volleyball, badminton, basketball courts and goal posts for football will also be prepared under this scheme. Also, necessary arrangements will be made there for sports like high jump, long jump, Kho-Kho, Kabaddi etc.

The department plans to develop five to six thousand grounds. Regarding this, a meeting was also held with the officials of Rural Development, Education, Panchayati Raj and Sports Department under the chairmanship of Chief Secretary Amrit Lal Meena. It was decided that if vacant land is available in the school premises, its list will be given to the Rural Development Department by the Education Department. If any land outside the school has been marked by the Sports Department for a field, he will give its list. Similarly, information about land available in Panchayats will also be taken from the Panchayati Raj Department. The Sports Department has asked interested clubs to apply for registration by October 14.

Gaya district became model

Gaya has become a model in the plan to develop playgrounds under MNREGA. The plan to develop sports grounds in 19 blocks of Gaya district was made by the then District Deputy Development Commissioner. Many grounds have also been prepared. Now it has been decided to develop such grounds across the state so that sports culture develops in rural areas.

The work will be completed in two phases, track and court will also be constructed.

Departmental officials say that this work will be completed in two phases under MNREGA. In the first phase, the ground will be prepared and tracks and courts etc. will be built on it. After this work is completed, a gallery will be built there under MNREGA for the convenience of people to sit. Chairs will be set up. Apart from this, rooms and store rooms will also be made for the players to change their clothes etc. Based on the length and breadth of the land, it will be decided for which sports grounds will be prepared there.
