Police brought notorious gangster Romi from Hong Kong to India, terrorists were freed by firing in jail

Fugitive gangster Ramanjit Singh alias Romi, the mastermind of Punjab’s infamous Nabha jailbreak, has been safely extradited from Hong Kong and brought back to India today by the Anti Gangster Task Force (AGTF) team of Punjab Police. Giving information about the case, Punjab DGP Gaurav Yadav said on social media, “As a result of the relentless efforts of Punjab Police, the main conspirator Romi is being brought back to India today to ensure justice. He was in touch with other escaped prisoners of ISI and Khalistan Liberation Force (KLF) including Harminder Singh Mintu and Kashmir Singh Galwadi.

Success after a long legal battle

Three cases are registered against Ramanjit Singh Romi in Punjab. In June 2016, Nabha police arrested Ramanjit Singh Romi. A large number of weapons were recovered from him. Later, after getting bail, he jumped bail and fled to Hong Kong. From there, he hatched a conspiracy to break the Nabha jail and also provided funds. After the disappearance of gangster Romi, a red corner notice was issued against him. Romi was arrested in Hong Kong in the year 2018.

Punjab had raised this matter before the central government. After this, the process of his extradition was started. After this, Romi filed a petition in the Hong Kong High Court, which was rejected. A long legal battle was fought by India to bring him to India from there. After which this success has now been achieved. Gangster Romi was in contact with gangster Gurpreet Singh Sheikhon. Gurpreet was among the six people who escaped from Nabha jail in November 2016.

6 terrorists and gangsters were freed from jail by firing indiscriminately at the jail

At 9 am on 27 November 2016, two vehicles carrying people in police uniform stopped at the main gate of Nabha jail. As soon as the sentry opened the door, two people got out of the vehicle and created panic in the jail by firing 100 rounds. 6 dreaded criminals including Khalistan Liberation Force terrorist Mintu had escaped from Nabha jail by breaking out. These included Khalistan Liberation Force (KLF) terrorist Harminder Singh Mintu, terrorist Kashmir Singh and four other gangsters Harjinder Singh Bhullar alias Vicky Gounder, Gurpreet Singh Sekhon, Kulpreet Singh alias Neeta Deol and Amandeep Singh alias Dhotiyan.

Dreaded terrorist of Khalistan Liberation Force Harminder Singh Minto was captured from Delhi. Gurpreet Singh Sekhon, Kulpreet Singh alias Neeta Deol and Amandeep Singh alias Dhotian were captured again. Gangster Vicky Gounder was killed in an encounter by Punjab Police in January 2018. Terrorist Kashmir Singh is still absconding. 20 people including two jail workers and nine gangsters were sentenced to 10 years each. On March 23, 2023, in the much-discussed Nabha jail break case, a Patiala court sentenced 20 people including two jail workers and nine gangsters to 10 years each. Of the other two convicts, one was sentenced to five years and the other to three years, while six were acquitted.
