The case of rape and murder of a female trainee doctor in Kolkata’s RG Kar Government Hospital last month is still hot. Protests demanding punishment for the accused are not stopping in the whole of Bengal. Meanwhile, the family of the female doctor made serious allegations against the Kolkata Police. Claimed that the action of the police was suspicious from the beginning. They performed the last rites in a hurry and also tried to bribe us to suppress the case.
Participating in a protest against the brutal incident with the Kolkata woman doctor, the victim’s family has demanded justice and accused a senior Kolkata police officer of trying to bribe them. The body of the woman doctor was recovered from the hospital premises on August 9.
The father of the deceased woman doctor says, “The police tried to hush up the case from the very beginning. We were not allowed to see the body and we had to wait at the police station when the body was taken for post-mortem. Later, when the body was handed over to us, a senior police officer offered us money, which we immediately refused.”
It is noteworthy that the Calcutta High Court had ordered the case to be handed over to the CBI in the second week of August. Last Monday, the CBI arrested Dr. Sandeep Ghosh, former principal of RG Kar Medical College and Hospital, in connection with alleged financial misconduct at the hospital.
The West Bengal Assembly has unanimously passed the state’s anti-rape bill. The law demands the death penalty for the culprits if the rape victim dies or becomes physically disabled due to the incident. At the same time, life imprisonment without parole has been demanded for other rape offenders.
