The police has started cracking down on those involved in the protest against the alleged illegal construction of a mosque in Sanjauli area of ​​Shimla. The police is taking action under the violation of Section 163. The police has identified 185 people involved in the protest. The police claims that about 60 people have been identified who pelted stones during the protest.

According to a report by Univarta, the police is taking the help of drone video footage to identify the protesters. Not only this, the criminal records of the people involved in the protest are also being investigated. The police said that most of the people will be identified through technology. Apart from this, the police is also investigating the WhatsApp chats between those who conducted the protest.

Police claim that the aim of the protesters was to reach the mosque. Force had to be used to stop the protesters. Lathicharge and water cannon were used on the protesters. Six policemen were also injured in the clash, two of whom have suffered serious injuries. Shimla Superintendent of Police Sanjeev Kumar Gandhi said that every aspect is being investigated thoroughly.

According to a PTI Bhasha report, the police have registered a case against 50 people including VHP leaders, former councillors and panchayat heads. Shimla Superintendent of Police Sanjeev Kumar Gandhi said on Sunday that call detail records (CDRs) of those who instigated the protest have been collected, on the basis of which more cases will be registered.

Sanjeev Kumar Gandhi said that there is evidence in CCTV footage, video and photographs in which stones can be seen in the hands of people. These stones were thrown at the deployed officers. Police has so far identified 50 people and registered eight cases against them. The accused include VHP leaders, panchayat pramukh, former councillors and shopkeepers, besides people from Chaupal and Theog area.
