Protests against Israel were held at several places in Lebanon on Saturday in protest against the killing of Hezbollah leader Hassan Nasrallah. Officials said that a large number of people, including children, took to the streets carrying black flags in Hasnabad, Rainawari, Saidakadal, Mir Bihari and Aashabagh areas of the city. However, the demonstration remained peaceful. Meanwhile, former Chief Minister of Jammu and Kashmir Mehbooba Mufti has announced to postpone her election campaign for a day.
Protesters chanted anti-Israel and anti-American slogans and condemned the killing of the Lebanese extremist group’s top leader. Officials said a large number of police personnel were deployed in the areas. Aga Ruhullah, Lok Sabha member from Srinagar, postponed his campaign. He was campaigning for National Conference candidates.
PDP President Mehbooba Mufti also postponed her election campaign for the next day. “In solidarity with the martyrs of Lebanon and Gaza, especially Hassan Nasrallah, I am canceling my campaign tomorrow,” she said in a post on X. We stand with the people of Palestine and Lebanon in this hour of grief.”
According to news agency AP received from Beirut, Hassan Nasrallah, the leader of the organization who played an important role in transforming Hezbollah into a powerful paramilitary and political force in West Asia, has been killed in an Israeli air strike. Nasrallah led Hezbollah’s war against Israel in 2006. “Hezbollah Secretary General Sayyid Hassan Nasrallah has joined his fellow great martyrs, whom he led from one victory to another for 30 years,” Hezbollah said in a statement.
