Two incidents of ragging have come to light in two days at Jagannath Pahadiya Medical College in Bharatpur district of Rajasthan. The senior girls started ragging by making 13 first year MBBS girl students stand together in the common room. The incidents of ragging have created a stir in the medical college administration. College Principal Tarunlal said that two cases of ragging have come to light. In the first case, it was found that some students were indulging in ragging, after which the Anti Ragging Committee was activated. Within some time, the students involved in ragging were brought to the office. In this regard, a letter has been written to the families of all the students and called.
A case of ragging of students has also come to light in the college common room on Monday. Principal Tarunlal said that on Tuesday the students were made aware not to indulge in ragging. Also informed about the rules and penalties of ragging. If students are found guilty of ragging, they may have to go to jail. Besides, problems may arise in MBBS studies also. The college administration has summoned the families of all the students to the college after Diwali to curb the incidents of ragging.
After Diwali, the college administration will take written affidavits from medical students and their families regarding ragging. It is noteworthy that in March 2024 also, in the ragging case, three students were suspended for three months with a fine of Rs 25,000 each and another student was suspended for one month.
Principal Tarunlal said that many steps are being taken to strictly control ragging. After Diwali, parents of all the students have been called to the college between 6th and 10th November. A meeting will be held with the family members, and written affidavits will be taken from all the family members and students regarding ragging. The Principal said that if ragging is confirmed, it can lead to dismissal from the college and even jail for up to one year.
