A rail accident was averted in Chhapra, Bihar. When flames suddenly started coming out of a bogie of the Patliputra-Gorakhpur Express. After which there was panic among the passengers. The driver and guard were informed. After which the fire in the battery box was controlled.

A train accident was averted in Bihar. Passengers panicked when a fire suddenly broke out in a moving train between Avtar Nagar and Bada Gopal railway stations under Sonpur division of Chhapra. The incident happened when smoke and flames started appearing from under bogie number 113491 of Patliputra-Gorakhpur Express train (train number 15079). The passengers travelling in the train panicked and started shouting loudly. After which the passengers immediately informed the guard and driver of the train, who immediately stopped the train without wasting any time.
The train was stopped at Bada Gopal railway station, where railway personnel inspected the bogie. During the investigation, it was found that the battery box under the bogie was on fire, which was emitting smoke. To handle this situation, the railway personnel immediately cut the connection of the battery box and started trying to extinguish the fire. Fortunately, the problem was resolved on time and a major accident was averted. Although the fire was extinguished, the train was stopped at Bada Gopal station for one hour and 13 minutes keeping in mind the safety and legal procedures.

On receiving information about the incident, senior officials took stock of the situation and the train was allowed to run again. During the incident, no passenger suffered any physical harm nor did the fire spread to other coaches of the train. However, after this incident, an atmosphere of fear was created among the passengers and questions were raised about safety. The railway administration has taken this incident seriously and ordered an inquiry. And it is being ensured that such incidents do not recur in future. This incident has once again raised questions on the safety of passengers and the management of the railways, but the promptness and quick decision of the railway personnel helped in averting a major accident.
