Chief Electoral Officer Naveen Mahajan said that after the Model Code of Conduct came into force on October 15 for the Assembly by-elections, flying squads, static surveillance teams and other enforcement agencies formed as per the instructions of the Election Commission of India kept a close watch on the transportation of illegal goods. Is. Of the Rs 13.5 crore worth of illegal material seized till Wednesday, Rs 2.5 crore is cash. Also, due to mutual coordination between these agencies, illicit liquor worth Rs 1.1 crore and narcotics worth about Rs 1.5 lakh have been seized.
According to Mahajan, Rs 35 lakh in cash was recovered from a vehicle in Alwar on Wednesday. Around Rs 2 crore of illegal cash has been seized in Dausa district during the code of conduct period. During this period, so far around Rs 35 lakh in illegal cash has been found in Alwar and Rs 10.5 lakh in Dungarpur. Freebies and other materials worth more than Rs 9.78 crore have also been seized.
The Chief Electoral Officer said that the Election Commission of India has appointed observers to control and monitor the election expenditure by the candidates during the by-elections in 7 assembly constituencies. The Commission has deployed a total of 11 observers, including one general observer each and 4 police observers for all constituencies. 72 teams each in the form of flying squads and spatial surveillance teams are carrying out surveillance for all 7 areas.
