Igims patna surgery: Surprising cases keep coming up in the medical world. But … if you hear a recent case in Bihar, you will be surprised. Doctors at the Indira Gandhi Institute of Medical Sciences (IGIMS) in Patna have removed the teeth from the eye of a patient during the operation. Experts say that this incident is very rare and such cases have been reported in India so far.
What is the whole story?
Actually, the patient’s name is Ramesh Kumar who is a resident of Siwan district. Ramesh, 42, had a problem of bleeding from the upper teeth in October last year. After initial treatment, he was almost cured by December 2024. But in March 2025 this year, he felt a lump -like problem on the cheek between the right eye and the teeth. Along with this, problems like blurred appearance, headache, dizziness and lethargy increased. Ramesh reached Patna’s IGIMS when local treatment was not relieved.
This way revealed
During the investigation at IGIMS, doctors scanned his CBCT (Cone Beam Computed Tomography). This investigation revealed that the teeth have come out in the ‘Floor of the Arbital’ just below Ramesh’s right eye. After this, on August 11, the team of doctors successfully removed this tooth by performing complex surgery. Ramesh is completely healthy at the moment and his eyesight is also fine.
How did the teeth come out in the eye?
According to the head of the Department of Oral Medicine and Radiology of IGIMS, it is a dancing during development. When the child is in the womb of the mother, then the tooth making elements sometimes start developing in the wrong place. In the case of this patient, the root part of the tooth was in the ‘floor of the arbito’ under the eye and the crown (upper part of the tooth) flourished in the maxillary sinus. The body considered it a foreign object and made a cyst around it, which led to a problem of swelling and bone melting on the face.
Can this happen again?
According to the doctor, the chances of teeth forming in the eye or elsewhere are extremely low. However, the patient will be monitored continuously so that no new problems emerge. After the removal of the cyst during the operation, the part has also been cotured so that there is no possibility of infection in the coming.
This case is one of the rare cases …
According to experts, such cases have been registered only 2-3 times in India so far. In 2020, famous Chennai surgeon SM Balaji also performed a similar operation.
Let me tell you, this case of teeth from the eye for medical science once again proves that strange incidents can happen at any time during development in the human body. This success of the doctors of Patna is a matter of pride not only for the patient but also for the medical science of the entire country.
