Gujarat Chief Minister Bhupendra Patel has ordered the district collectors to expedite the compensation for the areas affected by heavy rains and floods. There should also be speed in providing cash and domestic assistance to needy families. After the CM’s order, the administration is providing both types of assistance to the needy in both rural and urban areas. More than Rs 8 crore in cash has been distributed since September 3. This has provided assistance to about 1.70 lakh people.
Currently, 1160 teams are engaged in surveys to find out who has not even got basic things like household items and clothes due to rain and floods. So far, clothes and household items worth more than 20 crores have been provided to more than fifty thousand families. The state government is helping those people whose only means of employment has been destroyed. Also, household items have been destroyed due to rain and floods. Alok Pandey, an officer providing assistance to the people, said that 1120 teams are working in various districts like Vadodara, Surat, Jamnagar, Dwarka.
An official said that the state government has provided assistance of Rs 88 lakh to the families of 22 people who died during this period. Along with this, Rs 1.78 crore has also been provided to the owners of 2618 animals that died. A survey of houses affected by water and floods is also being conducted. Assessing their damage, they are also being provided assistance. In this way, Rs 3.67 crore has been distributed to the owners of 46723 houses and huts that were damaged.
The relief officer said that a total of 48695 people were evacuated to safer places during this period. This included 602 pregnant women. They were kept safe in 880 shelter homes built in different parts of the state. 216 pregnant women also had safe delivery during the flood affected situation.
