Sanjay Raut News: Shiv Sena (Uddhav Balasaheb Thackeray) leader and Rajya Sabha MP Sanjay Raut has been sentenced to jail in a defamation case. The case is two years old and then Bharatiya Janata Party leader Kirit Somaiya’s wife Medha had made allegations against Raut. She had filed a petition in the court and filed a defamation case of Rs 100 crore.

Medha Somaiya had filed a case against Raut. She said that Raut had made baseless and derogatory allegations against her and her husband of being involved in a Rs 100 crore scam in the construction of public toilets in Mira Bhayander. She had complained, ‘The statements made in the media by the accused are derogatory. The allegations have been made to tarnish my image in front of the general public.’
Kirit Somaiya had informed on May 16, 2022 that his wife is going to file a defamation and harassment case against Raut in the name of Rs 100 crore scam. Along with this, in a video message posted, he had said, ‘On Wednesday, May 18, Professor Dr. Medha Kirit Somaiya will file a defamation case against Sanjay Raut in Mumbai Sewri Court. Under the Indian Penal Code (IPC 499, 500), there can be a punishment of 2 years.’
He further said, ‘Sanjay Raut has said that there is a toilet scam of Rs 100 crore. There is not even a scam of 100 paise. There is not a single proof, not even evidence. We will file this claim on Wednesday against him for creating pressure, terrorism, torturing a woman.’

On April 12, 2022, Medha read an article in Saamana, in which allegations of ‘toilet scam’ in Mira Bhayander area were made against her. Soon after this, many TV channels and newspapers broadcast this news quoting Raut. She then filed a petition demanding compensation of Rs 100 crore. Along with this, a ban was demanded on Raut speaking against her and her family.

According to a report published in the Indian Express on April 16, 2022, Raut had said that he was soon going to expose Kirit Somaiya and his family in a Rs 100 crore toilet scam.
He had said, ‘I am going to expose the toilet scam done by Somaiya… This scam has happened in Mira Bhayander Municipal Corporation and other places in Maharashtra… Somaiya and the Yuva Pratishthan run by his family are involved in this toilet scam.’
He had said, ‘Fadnavis should also say something in this regard. BJP leaders always talk against corruption. Yesterday I saw Fadnavis tweeting about Sharad Pawar. He should also tweet on the Rs 100 crore INS Vikrant scam, which we are going to expose.’

The Metropolitan Magistrate (Siwari Court) convicted Rajya Sabha member Raut under Section 500 (punishment for defamation) of the Indian Penal Code and also imposed a fine of Rs 25,000 on him.
