Safira Sahu, Mayor of Jagdalpur Municipal Corporation in Chhattisgarh, has accused councillor Rajesh Rai of misbehaving. Sahu has alleged that Rai passes lewd comments on seeing her. Safira said that Rai made comments like ‘you are wearing a nice saree’ and ‘your cheeks are glowing’ on seeing her. She reached the police station with a complaint alleging that the councillor was mentally harassing her.
Mayor Safira Sahu has lodged a complaint against Rai in this regard at Bodhghat police station in Jagdalpur. In her complaint, she said, ‘On Wednesday, September 11, 2024, at 3.30 pm, while I was coming out of the municipal corporation office, I gave fruits to councilor Shri Suryapani, seeing which Rajesh Rai commented on my cheeks and said that this is why your cheeks are glowing. Councilor Rajesh Rai made an indecent comment on me.’
The mayor further said, ‘At the same time, on Friday, 13 September 2024, during the general meeting in the municipal corporation office, Rajesh Rai again commented on the saree I was wearing. He said that you are wearing a nice saree. I am being mentally harassed by the said councilor by constantly making personal indecent remarks on me. Since I am a woman as well as the mayor of Jagdalpur city, I am getting mentally disturbed by this type of act. Therefore, you are requested to register an FIR against councilor Rajesh Rai for mentally harassing me.’
On the other hand, the police have registered an FIR on the basis of the written complaint of the mayor. The side of Congress councilor Rajesh Rai from Ganganagar ward has not come forward in this matter yet. Let us tell you that Safira Sahu was in the Congress party till a few months ago. But after a rift with the party leaders, she left the party at the end of March this year and took membership of the BJP in front of CM Vishnudev.
