Ludhiana News: Punjab Anti Narcotics Task Force (ANTF) took major action on Monday. The ANTF has arrested a sub-inspector for allegedly illegally detaining two suspects in a drugs case. Following the complaint of ANTF Deputy Superintendent of Police Satwinder Singh regarding this matter, an inquiry was ordered against the SI.
The then acting chief sub-inspector (SI) of Ludhiana unit of ANTF, Gurmeet Singh, has been arrested by ANTF. He is accused of allegedly keeping two suspects arrested from Pataran in Patiala in custody all night and preparing false documents of their arrest from Ludhiana the next day. Along with this it was claimed that 690 grams of opium was recovered from the suspects. After this, on September 18, an FIR was registered against the suspects Charanjit Singh and Ranveer Singh at the ANTF police station in Mohali.
At the same time, the suspects had accused the SI of arresting them from Khetla village of Patran a day earlier and illegally detaining them overnight before pretending to arrest them in Ludhiana. During investigation, ANTF officials found that SI Gurmeet and his two associates Narinder Singh of Muktsar and Lakhwinder Singh of Ludhiana were also present at the time of arrest. During the investigation, the suspicion on the accused SI increased as he could not give satisfactory answers.
ANTF Ludhiana Range Assistant Inspector General (AIG) Snehdeep Sharma has confirmed the wrong facts presented by the SI. Along with this, the opium recovery case is being investigated. After the allegations were found true, sections 127-2 (wrongful confinement) and 61-2 (criminal conspiracy) of the Indian Justice Code and section 59 (2) of the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act were registered against SI Gurmeet Singh. An FIR has been registered under. Along with this, two of his associates have also been named in this case. Meanwhile, SI Gurmeet Singh said that he is innocent and has been wrongly implicated.
