Siliguri court's decision in the rape-murder case of a minor, MD Abbas sentenced to death

The Siliguri court has found MD Abbas guilty in the rape and murder case of a minor girl and has sentenced him to death. Special Public Prosecutor Vikas Chatterjee informed about the court’s decision on Saturday. He said, ‘We had appealed for the death penalty in this case. The 3 sections under which the crime was proved include the provision of maximum punishment. Therefore, a hearing was held on this point for about one and a half hours yesterday where the court was told that this is one of the rarest cases. The decision should be taken on this basis.’

Vikas Chatterjee said that MD Abbas was sentenced to death under 2 sections. One is section 302, which is related to murder. The second is section 6 of the POCSO Act. Apart from this, 7 years of sentence was given in the second case. The family has been asked to pay Rs 10 lakh as compensation. BJP MP from Darjeeling, West Bengal, Raju Bista expressed satisfaction over the death penalty given to the accused in the case of murder of a minor girl in Matigara. Bista said that this decision has further strengthened our faith in the judiciary. In this case, Siliguri Police and the investigating officer should be congratulated for presenting the case in the court.

It comprises of all the citizens, NGOs, social organisations, schools, colleges and various people who stood with the family and demanded justice.
