Police have arrested 2 accused involved in the incident.
Ahmedabad: In Ahmedabad district of Gujarat, a sniffer dog did wonders by finding the stolen money of a farmer. An official said on Friday that this police sniffer dog helped in solving the case of theft of Rs 1.07 crore, after which two people were arrested. With the help of a Doberman dog named Penny, the district police caught the accused on Thursday and recovered the entire amount allegedly stolen from them on October 12, the official said. State Home Minister Harsh Sanghvi also tweeted about this feat of Penny.
‘Farmer had sold land near Lothal’
According to the official release issued by the police, the police have arrested Buddha Solanki and his associate Vikram Solanki, residents of Sargwala village of Dholka taluka. Koth police station sub-inspector P.N. Gohil said that a 52-year-old farmer became a millionaire overnight by selling a plot near the Lothal archaeological site near his village. The farmer got Rs 1.07 crore in this land deal. He told that the farmer had gone to Tarapur in Anand district for some work after locking his house on October 12.
‘Cash was kept in bags in a kutcha house’
The officer said, ‘The farmer wanted to buy land elsewhere with this money, so on October 10, he filled cash in two plastic bags and kept them in his kutcha house. On the night of October 12, some people entered the house by removing the bricks near the window and ran away with the bags. Gohil said the local police came to know about the incident the next day and started interrogating 30 suspects and 14 history-sheeters to get clues. The officer said that a dog squad along with Penny also reached the spot to trace the movement of the thieves.
‘Penny had stopped some distance away from Buddha’s house’
Gohil said, ‘On Thursday, Penny stopped at a place some distance away from Buddha’s house. He was already on our suspects list because he knew about the cash. When the accused was made to stand with the other suspects, Penny stayed with him for some time.’ Police raided Buddha’s house and recovered Rs 53.9 lakh and during interrogation he confessed to the theft and Vikram’s involvement in it. The remaining money was found at Vikram’s house in the village. Gohil said Buddha was close to the farmer and was the last person he spoke to before leaving home on October 12. (Language)
