More than two dozen workers engaged in installing a BSNL tower and constructing an Army post were stranded due to snowfall and landslide near Lal Dhak in Himachal Pradesh’s Kinnaur district on Thursday.

Himachal Pradesh also witnessed rain on Thursday. More than 24 workers engaged in installing a BSNL tower and constructing an army post near Lal Dhak got trapped due to landslides amid snowfall in Kinnaur district. The district administration said that work was being done to install BSNL towers in Nagdum and Dharnithal, while an army post was also being constructed in Nagdum. The workers were returning due to snowfall in the area and increasing cold.

While the labourers were returning, a huge rock slipped in Dumti, about 25 km from Chitkul, due to which the road got blocked. Due to this all the labourers got stuck. The Kinnaur district administration said that after receiving information about the labourers being stranded, the government machinery has been sent to the spot. The road will be opened after the snowfall stops. The IMD has warned of the danger of flash floods in some parts of Shimla, Kinnaur and Sirmaur districts till Friday.

Not only this, a yellow alert has been issued for heavy rain, thunderstorm and lightning at different places in five out of 12 districts of Himachal Pradesh. According to IMD, heavy rain may occur in some parts of Kinnaur, Mandi, Sirmaur, Solan and Shimla districts. The Meteorological Department has issued a yellow alert for heavy rain with thunderstorms in different parts of Kangra, Kullu, Mandi, Kinnaur, Shimla, Bilaspur, Solan and Sirmaur districts on September 13.

The IMD has also warned about the possibility of damage to gardens, crops, weak structures and kutcha houses. Dhaulkuan in Sirmaur district recorded the highest rainfall of 26 mm since Wednesday evening. According to the latest update shared by the State Emergency Operations Center (SEOC), a total of 37 roads are closed in Himachal Pradesh till Wednesday. Not only this, 106 power schemes are disrupted.

According to officials, Himachal Pradesh has received 21 percent less rainfall than normal since the onset of monsoon on June 27. The average rainfall in Himachal during this time period is 678.4 mm but this time only 539.1 mm of rain has been received. Officials also said that 158 ​​people have died and 30 are missing in incidents caused by rain from June 27 to September 7. Not only this, the state has suffered a loss of Rs 1,305 crore.
