A video is going viral on social media in which a couple is sitting comfortably on the roof of a car that is almost submerged in flood water. The incident is from Sabarkantha district of Gujarat. Here a car got stuck in a swollen river and the couple riding in it somehow saved their lives by sitting on the roof of their car for two hours.
As soon as the video of this incident went viral on social media, people’s reactions started coming in. On one hand, while some people are praising the courage of the husband and wife, some are surprised that how are they so carefree even in such a terrible situation?
How did husband and wife get trapped?
Suresh Mistry said that another vehicle ahead of him had crossed the bridge safely so he thought there was no danger in crossing the bridge, so he tried to cross the bridge submerged in water.
“While we were crossing the river, the water level rose further and the flow became so strong that our car was swept away from the bridge by about 1.5 kilometres,” he said, adding that they called the fire brigade and police for help.
Giving information about the incident, officials said, “The rescue operation of Suresh Mistry and his wife in Idar town was initially hampered due to the strong current of the Karol river but they were rescued by local fire officials after the water level receded.” Fire officer Kamal Patel said that the car was passing through a bridge over the Karol river and due to the water level rising to dangerous levels, it got swept away for about 1.5 km.

Patel said the car was almost submerged in water and only its roof was visible. Meanwhile, the couple got out of the car and somehow climbed onto the roof, the official said. He said the couple sat on the roof for about two hours and were finally rescued. A crowd gathered on the river bank to watch the rescue operation and many people also made videos of the car almost submerged in water.
Meanwhile, rescue teams including boats were called for help and by the time they reached the spot, the couple was safely pulled out of the water, he said.
