A hearing was held in the Supreme Court on Friday on the bulldozer action near Somnath temple in Gujarat. Hearing the petition filed by the Muslim organization, the Supreme Court said that if it is found that the structures have been demolished in contempt of its order, then orders will be given to rebuild them.
A bench of Justices BR Gavai and KV Vishwanathan was hearing a petition that has been filed alleging that the authorities have demolished the properties in violation of the Supreme Court’s September 17 order. The Supreme Court had banned demolition of properties without permission that day. Demolition of properties accused of any crime was also prevented.
Senior advocate Sanjay Hegde, appearing for the petitioner Samast Patni Muslim Jamaat, said that despite the order of the Supreme Court, the administration demolished the structures in Gujarat. Solicitor General Tushar Mehta, appearing for the Gujarat government, said the structures were on the seashore and 340 meters away from the Somnath temple. He said, ‘Your Lordship, this is in the category of exception given by you.’
