Ahmedabad: In the civic elections of Gujarat, BJP has cleared the Congress’s Sufda. The party has won 60 out of 68 municipalities. The BJP has also won in three taluka panchayats- Gandhinagar, Kapadwanj and Katlal. At the same time, Samajwadi Party (SP) and Aam Aadmi Party have performed better in the BJP’s storm. The SP has won two municipalities. At the same time, the Aam Aadmi Party has done well in Muslim -dominated areas.
SP did better than Congress
According to the election results declared on Tuesday, the BJP snatched the power of at least 15 municipalities of the state from the hands of the Congress. The Congress was able to win only one municipality, while the Samajwadi Party (SP) performed better by winning two municipalities.
SP recorded victory in these two municipalities
The Samajwadi Party has won two municipalities in Porbandar district in Kutiana and Ranavav. The Samajwadi Party took away power from the hands of the BJP in Kutiana and registered a big victory here. Of the 24 seats in the Kutiana Municipality, the Samajwadi Party won 14 seats, while the BJP won 10 seats. The Samajwadi Party won 20 out of 28 seats in the Ranavav Municipality and the BJP won 8 seats. The Nationalist Congress Party (Rakampa) was occupied by the Ranavav Municipality of Porbandar district. The SP snatched this municipality from the hands of NCP.
Congress and AAP collided in Muslim -dominated areas
With a disappointing performance, the Congress won only the Salaya Municipality of Devbhoomi Dwarka district. The opposition party upheld power by winning 15 out of 28 seats in this Muslim -dominated municipality, while the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) finished second by winning 13 seats. Apart from this, no one got a clear significance in five municipalities Mangaril, Dakor, Vishlav, Chhotadepur and Vavala.
Please tell that a total of 5,084 candidates were in the fray for the municipal elections and voting was held on 16 February. The Gujarat government announced 27 percent reservation for other backward classes (OBCs) in panchayats, municipalities and municipal corporations in 2023, after which this was the first election.
