Jagannath yatra stampede: The ongoing Jagannath Rath Yatra in Puri, Odisha turned into mourning. Today (29 June) today, around 4 am, there was a terrible stampede in a large crowd of devotees near Nandighosh Rath of Lord Jagannath in front of Gundicha temple. 3 people died in this heartbreaking accident, while 6 people are said to be injured.
Those who died in the stampede in the Rath Yatra include 36 -year -old Basanti Sahu, 78 -year -old Premkanti Mahanti and Prabhati Das. All the bodies have been kept in Puri Medical College. A person who lost his wife in this stampede said, “When this incident happened, no one reacted, nor the fire officials, nor the rescue team nor the hospital team. This is a pathetic incident that cannot be expressed.”
The situation deteriorated due to the absence of police
The accident occurred when a crowd of millions gathered to see the chariots. During this, there was a sudden stampede and many people fell on the ground and crushed. It is being told that where this painful incident took place, enough police or security forces were not present, which worsened the situation. Let us tell you that the chariots of Lord Balabhadra and Subhadra had already reached their destination. Later, Lord Jagannath’s chariot reached the Gundicha temple at his aunt, then this unfortunate incident happened. Three devotees lost their lives in it.
Odisha Law Minister said- We are taking strict action
In this case, Odisha Law Minister Prithviraj Harichandan said that this is an unfortunate incident. We are taking cognizance of this. I also talked to CM in the morning. We are taking strict action and the DGP has been sent to the spot. He further said, “Three people have died and 6-7 people are injured in a large crowd. I am going to Puri. We are trying our best to control the crowd. The situation is currently under control and people are darshan.”
Hundreds of devotees deteriorated
This is not the first incident related to Jagannath Rath Yatra. Two days before this, on Friday (June 27), more than 625 devotees deteriorated due to excessive mob pressure near the chariot of Goddess Subhadra. According to the administration, 70 of them had to be hospitalized, of which 9 of which still remain critical. These incidents raise serious questions on the security system of the Rath Yatra.
